Under the catalysis of transition metal ions such as Fe ² ⁺, hydrogen peroxide can generate highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (· OH) through the Fenton reaction:
H₂O₂ + Fe²⁺ → Fe³⁺ + ·OH + OH⁻
Hydroxyl radicals are one of the most oxidative species known to attack almost all organic molecules without selectivity. This reaction has significant implications in both environmental remediation (advanced oxidation technology for pollutant degradation) and biology (causing oxidative stress damage).

 

Application of liquid peroxide:

1. Bleaching in the pulp and textile industry: This is the largest industrial use of hydrogen peroxide. Compared with traditional chlorine containing bleaching agents such as chlorine and hypochlorite, products bleached with hydrogen peroxide have higher and more stable whiteness, and do not produce toxic chlorine containing organic compounds such as dioxins.
