Thiourea
Dibutyl thiourea is a white and shiny crystal, bitter taste, density 1.41, melting point 176 ~ 178℃, decomposition when hotter, soluble in water, soluble in ethanol when heated, very slightly soluble in ether.During melting, it partially isomerizes to form ammonium thiocyanide.It is formed by the interaction of hydrogen sulfide with lime slurry to form calcium hydrosulfide, and then with calcium cyanamide (base).It can also be prepared by melting ammonium thiocyanide, or by acting cyanamide with hydrogen sulfide.
Chemical properties of dibutyl thiourea:
Easily deliquescent in the air. Transformed into ammonium thiocyanate at 150 ℃. Sublimation at 150-160 ℃ under vacuum and decomposition at 180 ℃. It has reducibility and can reduce free iodine to iodine ions. This product is highly reactive and is used to prepare various compounds. It can react with various oxidants to produce urea, sulfuric acid, and other organic compounds, as well as easily soluble addition compounds with inorganic compounds.

It is used to synthesize drugs such as sulfathiazole, methionine and fat pig tablets.Used as raw material for dyes and dyeing AIDS, resins and molding powders.It can also be used as a vulcanization accelerator for rubber, a flotation agent for metal minerals, a catalyst for making phthalic anhydride and fumaric acid, and as a metal rust inhibitor.In photographic materials, it can be used as a developer and toner.It can also be used in electroplating industry.Thiourea is also used in diazo photosensitive paper, synthetic resin coatings, anion exchange resins, germination promoters, fungicides and many other aspects.Thiourea is also used as a fertilizer.
