Principle of bleaching with hydrogen peroxide:

Oxidative decomposition of pigments
When hydrogen peroxide (H ₂ O ₂) decomposes, it releases oxygen and hydroxyl radicals (· OH), which can oxidize the chromophores (such as double bonds and conjugated structures) in organic pigments, causing them to break or transform into colorless substances.

Difference from chlorine bleach:
After hydrogen peroxide bleaching, water and oxygen are generated without chlorine residue, making it more environmentally friendly; Chlorine containing bleaching agents, such as sodium hypochlorite, may produce toxic by-products.

 

Medical disinfection of bleaching with hydrogen peroxide:

Wound treatment: 3% concentration is used for disinfection of superficial wounds, and foam generated after application can remove necrotic tissue.
