Principle of hydrogen peroxide for skin pigmentation:

Hydrogen peroxide decomposes to produce hydroxyl radicals (· OH) and oxygen (O ₂), which directly oxidize melanin particles in the epidermis and decompose them into colorless small molecules (such as carboxylic acid substances), thereby reducing pigmentation. This mechanism is particularly suitable for epidermal pigmentation (such as sunspots and acne scars), but is ineffective for dermal pigmentation.
 
The formation of melanin relies on the catalytic action of tyrosinase. Hydrogen peroxide can temporarily inhibit the activity of tyrosinase and reduce melanin production by oxidizing the thiol groups or metal ions (such as copper ions) in its active center.
 
Low concentration hydrogen peroxide can slightly corrode the stratum corneum, accelerate epidermal renewal, promote the shedding of old dead skin cells containing melanin, and make the skin appear fairer in the short term. However, excessive peeling may damage the skin barrier, causing sensitivity or inflammation.
