Ammonium Chloride

Ammonium chloride is an inorganic salt that is primarily produced as a by-product of the alkali industry. Its production technology has been continuously improved to meet the growing demand for its wide range of applications. Additionally, it is readily available for purchase online. Due to the decline in China's overall compound fertiliser production and sales in recent years, particularly the low concentration of compound fertiliser production, there has been a reduction in demand. This has had an impact on the industry, as it is mainly used in the production of compound fertiliser.

Alkalinity or Acidity

The aqueous solution of ammonium chloride is known to be a weakly acidic and strong electrolyte. Upon dissolution in water, it ionises into ammonium ions and chloride ions, which react to produce ammonium chloride and white smoke. It is characterised by having no odour and a salty, cool, and slightly bitter taste. It should be noted that although it has low hygroscopicity, it can absorb moisture and form lumps in humid and rainy weather. That is soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and liquid ammonia, but insoluble in acetone and ether. Its solubility in water at 0℃ is 29.4 g, but hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride can reduce its solubility. When ionised ammonium ions undergo hydrolysis in water, the solution becomes acidic, and the pH value of saturated ammonium chloride solution at room temperature is generally around 5.6. The pH value varies depending on the concentration of the solution, with a pH of 5.5 at 1%, 5.1 at 3%, and 5.0 at 10% at 25℃. The solution exhibits a weakly acidic nature and may undergo decomposition upon heating. It is important to note that its acidity tends to increase with temperature. Furthermore, when the solution is mixed with ammonia and hydrogen chloride gas, it results in the formation of white smoke, which is identified as ammonium chloride. Moreover, it has been observed that the solution can cause corrosion in certain metals, particularly copper, but not in pig iron. Furthermore, when the solution is mixed with ammonia and hydrogen chloride gas, it results in the formation of white smoke, which is identified as ammonium chloride.
