PROSPHOROUS ACID
Phosphorous acid, H₃PO₃, is a white, crystalline solid at room temperature with high solubility in water, forming a colorless, syrupy solution. It has a melting point around 73 °C and decomposes upon heating above this temperature to release phosphine (PH₃) and phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄). Notably hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture from the air. It also exhibits deliquescence, dissolving readily into a liquid form in humid conditions. Its solid structure forms a layered arrangement due to strong hydrogen bonding, which contributes to its stability in a solid state.
