Sodium bicarbonate injection is a sterile, non pyrogenic hypertonic solution used intravenously as an electrolyte supplement and systemic alkalizing agent.
Concentration and pH value:

The concentration of NaHCO3 injection in sterile water is usually 7.5% or 8.4%, with a pH value of approximately 8.
Clinical Pharmacology:

Intravenous injection of NaHCO3 can increase the concentration of bicarbonate in plasma, buffer excessive hydrogen ion concentration, increase blood pH, and reverse the clinical manifestations of acidosis.
Mechanism of action:

NaHCO3 dissociates in water, providing sodium ions (Na+) and bicarbonate ions (HCO3-). Sodium ions are the main cations in extracellular fluid and play an important role in treating fluid and electrolyte imbalances. Bicarbonate ions are a normal component of body fluids, with normal plasma levels ranging from 24 to 31 mEq/L. They are regulated by the kidneys through acidification or alkalization of urine.
