Application
Textile & Fiber Industry
Principal solvent for spinning polyacrylonitrile (PAN) into acrylic fibers; improves dope stability and fiber strength.
Chemical Synthesis
Converts alkyl halides to alkyl thiocyanates; introduces the –SCN group into pharmaceutical intermediates, agro-chemicals and specialty organics.
Pharmaceuticals
Employed as an intermediate in the manufacture of antihypertensive drugs, antibiotics and other APIs where controlled thiocyanate incorporation is required.
Construction
Functions as an effective concrete set-accelerator, especially in cold-weather concreting, precast production and rapid-repair mortars. Also used as a cement-grinding aid to enhance mill efficiency.
Agriculture
Active ingredient in certain herbicides, defoliants and fungicides for runway vegetation control and crop protection.
