Many industrial buyers are confused in selecting EDTA-2Na and EDTA-4Na, two classic chelating agents with similar functions but different applicable pH range, solubility and positioning scenarios. Correct distinction of their characteristics can help enterprises select materials accurately, optimize formula cost and production effect.
EDTA-2Na is slightly acidic in aqueous solution, suitable for weak acid and neutral environment, and mostly used in cosmetics, daily chemicals, pharmaceutical preparations and fine chemical formula stabilization. It has mild property, low irritation and good compatibility with surfactant and cosmetic raw materials.
EDTA-4Na is alkaline after dissolution, more suitable for alkaline water system and industrial wastewater treatment, circulating water scale inhibition, textile printing and dyeing and industrial cleaning. It has stronger scale inhibition and heavy metal removal ability in high alkalinity environment.
In terms of chelating ability, both can complex calcium, magnesium and heavy metal ions effectively, but the optimal reaction pH range is different. Blind replacement will lead to decreased system stability, precipitation phenomenon or weakened chelating effect, affecting product quality and production efficiency.
From the cost perspective, the market price of EDTA-2Na and EDTA-4Na is slightly different. Enterprises should not simply pursue low price, but select according to formula pH environment, application industry and product positioning. Cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries prefer EDTA-2Na, while industrial water treatment and detergent factories mostly choose EDTA-4Na.
Understanding the difference between EDTA-2Na and EDTA-4Na is the basic premise of raw material procurement and formula design. Reasonable selection can avoid production failure caused by improper model selection, and comprehensively balance product performance and raw material procurement cost.
