ZINC CHLORIDE

Zinc chloride  is a white, odorless, and highly hygroscopic crystalline substance. It is produced through the reaction of zinc metal with hydrochloric acid. The material is highly soluble in water and alcohol, with a melting point of 275°C. it has a wide range of industrial applications, including as a flux in metal processing, a disinfectant, and in chemical synthesis.

It is used as an electrolyte in zinc-carbon batteries, which are one of the most common types of primary (non-rechargeable) batteries. In these batteries, it serves as a conductor of electricity between the anode and cathode. The zinc in the anode undergoes oxidation, releasing electrons that flow through the external circuit to provide power, while the cathode, typically made of manganese dioxide, receives the electrons. It improves the performance of these batteries by enhancing the conductivity of the electrolyte and reducing the internal resistance, which helps the battery maintain a stable voltage output throughout its lifespan.
