This high pH is due to the complete dissociation of TSP in water, releasing sodium ions (Na+) and phosphate ions (PO4^3-), which can precipitate heavy metal ions, aiding in water softening. It is also a strong emulsifier, capable of breaking down and dispersing fats and oils. Its sequestrant properties allow it to bind to calcium and magnesium ions, preventing scale formation in industrial processes. Additionally, TSP is used as a buffering agent, helping to maintain stable pH levels in various chemical applications.

Anhydrous TSP is widely used in household and industrial detergents. It acts as a highly efficient water softener, which can chelate calcium and magnesium ions in water and prevent the deposition of minerals in hard water on clothing and surfaces. It can also increase the cleaning capacity of the detergent and improve the decontamination effect, especially in the removal of oil, protein and other organic dirt.
