OXALIC ACID
Oxalic acid, chemical form C₂H₂O₄, is a common organic acid that has the following physical properties: Appearance: Pure is a colorless, odorless crystal. Solubility:it is soluble in water and its solubility increases with the increase of temperature.It is also soluble in ethanol, ether and glycerol.
Melting and boiling points:The melting point of it is 101-102°C.When heated, it breaks down instead of boiling directly.
Density:The density of oxalic acid dihydrate is 1.653 g/cm³.
Crystal structure: it can form anhydrates and dihydrates. The crystal structure of dihydrate is monoclinic crystal system.
Hygroscopicity:
Oxalate dihydrate absorbs moisture in air.
It is a kind of strong organic acid, and its aqueous solution has strong acidity. Its pKa is 1.23 (first step ionization) and 4.19 (second step ionization), respectively.
