OXALIC ACID

Oxalic acid occurs naturally in the form of salts in many plant cell membranes. In the past, the industry used wood chips and strong alkali at 240 ~ 250℃ eutectic, first to produce oxalate, and then acidified to obtain oxalic acid. Later, it was produced by sodium formate dehydrogenation. Industrial carbon monoxide (such as yellow phosphorus production tail gas) is absorbed by caustic soda to produce sodium formate, which is dehydrogenated at 380 ° C to obtain sodium oxalate, and then treated by lime and sulfuric acid to make oxalic acid. It has a strong reducibility and is easily oxidized into carbon dioxide and water when it interacts with oxidants. Acid potassium permanganate (KMnO4) solution can be discolored and reduced to 2-valence manganese ion. This reaction is used in quantitative analysis to determine the concentration of potassium permanganate. Oxalic acid can also wash away ink stains splashed on strips of cloth.Instability: oxalic acid will decompose into carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and water at 189.5℃ or when it meets concentrated sulfuric acid.

USE:

As a mordant
Antimony oxalate can be used as a mordant, and ammonium ferric oxalate is a blueprint printing agent.

Rust removal function
It can be used to remove rust. However, be careful when using, oxalic acid has a strong corrosive effect on stainless steel. High concentrations of it also tend to corrode hands. And the acid oxalate produced has a high solubility, but has certain toxicity. When using, do not eat or drink. Skin contact with oxalic acid should be washed with water in time.
