It is used as a camouflage acid in the leather industry, chromium tannery, as a catalyst and stabilizing synthetic agent, as a reducing agent in the printing and dyeing industry, for the production of insurance powder, oxalic acid and formic acid. Precipitate precious metals. Complex ions of trivalent metals can be formed in solution. It has a buffering effect and can correct the pH value of strong acids.

Used in alkyd resin coatings, plasticizers, high explosives, acid resistant materials, aviation lubricating oil, adhesive additives.
