It is easily deliquescent, soluble in water and ethanol, soluble in methanol and acetone, and almost insoluble in chloroform and ethyl acetate. Its aqueous solution turns blood red when in contact with iron salt solution, but has no reaction when in contact with sub iron salt. It has a relative density of 1.305, a melting point of about 149 ℃, is toxic, and has a minimum lethal dose (for mice, orally) of 330mg/kg. It is irritating.
