Preparation of ammonium thiocyanate chemical formula:

The pressure synthesis reaction of carbon disulfide and ammonia produces ammonium thiocyanate and by-product ammonium hydrosulfide, which are then decomposed into hydrogen sulfide by desulfurization and evaporation. The resulting solution is purified and separated to obtain the product. Alternatively, sulfur can be reacted with sodium cyanide to produce sodium thiocyanate, which can then be decomposed with ammonium chloride to produce ammonium hydrosulfite.

It Used in the steel industry to prepare leaching agents.

It Used as a blackening agent in nickel plating electrolytes and for determining iron and silver ions in electrolytes in analytical chemistry.
