Oxidation:
In oil paintings, lead white [basic lead carbonate] reacts with hydrogen sulfide in the air to produce black lead sulfide, which can be washed with hydrogen peroxide
Principle: Lead sulfide → Lead oxide → Basic lead carbonate
(requires alkaline medium)
Reductive reactions with strong oxidants such as chlorine and potassium permanganate are oxidized to produce oxygen.
Add 5mL of dilute sulfuric acid test solution (TS-241) and 1mL of potassium permanganate test solution (TS-193) to 10mL of 10% sample solution. Bubbles should occur and the purple red color of potassium permanganate should disappear. Acidic to litmus. Explosive when encountering organic matter.
Take 1g of the sample (accurate to 0.1mg) and dilute it with water to 250.0mL. Take 25mL of this solution, add 10mL of dilute sulfuric acid test solution (TS-241), and titrate with 0.1mol/L potassium permanganate. 0.1mol/L per milliliter. Potassium permanganate is equivalent to 1.70mg of hydrogen peroxide (H ₂ O ₂).
When encountering organic matter and undergoing thermal decomposition, it releases oxygen and water, and reacts violently with chromic acid, potassium permanganate, metals, and carbonic acid. To prevent decomposition, trace amounts of stabilizers such as sodium stannate, sodium pyrophosphate, etc. can be added.
